Two police officers have been suspended in relation to alleged inappropriate behaviour during the deadly Capitol riots.

The suspensions are said to have involved an officer taking selfies with rioters and another wearing a Make America Great Again hat and "directing people inside".

It was also claimed by congressman Tim Ryan that an officer had been arrested, but this was later clarified by his spokesman as untrue.

Up to 15 other officers are also under investigation in relation to their behavior during Wednesday's riot which saw five people die, including a fellow officer.

A photo of an officer posing for a selfie with a rioter inside the Capitol circulated online following the failed coup attempt.

"I know that there were two people that were suspended," Democratic Rep. Ryan, D-Ohio, who chairs one of the committees that oversees the federal law enforcement agency, said during a press call on Monday afternoon.

"One was the selfie officer and another was an officer that put a MAGA hat on that started directing some people around," the lawmaker said.

He did not have specific details in relation to the officers under investigation.

The congressman said one officer had been arrested but a spokesman later said he misspoke.
