The Met Office has issued ice warnings lasting 20 hours for parts of the UK as the threat of the Beast from the East looms.

Forecasters have said icy stretches will form on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

They warn of a higher likelihood of accidents and injuries due to icy surfaces.

The ice warning covers northern parts of England and Scotland and lasts from 3pm until 11am tomorrow.

A plume of freezing cold air will see temperatures drop to -2C overnight in parts of Britain amid outbreaks of more snow and heavy rain.

Plenty of moisture and cloud is set to continue moving through the country on Monday, with rain heaviest over western hills and combining with cold air for snow in northern Scotland.
