With the entire country being plunged into yet another nationwide lockdown, stricter coronavirus restrictions are now more in place than ever before.

Now, as most of the UK lives under lockdown rules, travel abroad is banned, unless for a legally permitted reason such as for work.

And several celebrities have been taking full advantage of this rule, with big names jetting off to tropical and exotic spots in a bid to catch some much-needed sun.

But with regular travel banned, many celebs have seen this as a perfect opportunity to label their trips as work-related.

Below, we take a look at the very plush getaways taken by the stars who have escaped chilly England for warmer climes – and defended their decisions afterwards.

Vogue Williams

Vogue Williams insisted she didn't break any government rules when flying to St Barts to spend the New Year in the Caribbean with her in-laws.

The TV and radio star, 35, defended her trip as she took to her Instagram Stories after being accused of flouting coronavirus rules.

The former model said she was "working" when she was pictured on the beach in December.

Fans were riled when the model and her family were seen on the Caribbean island just days after she expressed her sadness over not being able to fly home to Ireland to see her family over Christmas.

But Vogue told her 840,000 Instagram followers: "I would like to assure my lovely Instagram family that I have not broken the government guidelines since rules and guidance came into effect last March."

She said she took precautions on her trip: "I also had Covid tests to ensure I travelled safely and I adhered to all safety guidelines recommended.

"It’s not ideal to be away working during these times but it had been booked in since last year…"

Vogue and her Made In Chelsea's husband Spencer Matthews live in London, which at the time was in strict Tier 4 measures, with their infant daughter Gigi and son Theo, two.

Under the Tier 4 rules in place at the time of Vogue's trip, residents were advised to stay at home and remain local unless they have a reasonable excuse.

Amber Gill defended her trip to Dubai after she was targeted by angry fans over her pre-Christmas break.

The 23-year-old Love Island winner flew out to the UAE just before Christmas, just as news was announced that London and the South East would be placed into a new Tier 4 lockdown.

A new strain of coronavirus has led to London and home counties being shut down and there were some who questioned Amber's decision to head to the sun.

The Geordie reality star hit back on Instagram, saying she had "no idea" what Tier 4 rules were and is confused by what is happening in the UK.

Amber flew from Heathrow at a time when prime minister Boris Johnson was urging people to stay at home and when she shared snaps of where she was, trolls targeted her for going away.

She wrote: "Just want to put it out there that I had no idea Tier 4 was a thing."

"The flight here was booked way before. I thought the only changes were being made on the 16th meaning I was still allowed to travel for work," she added.

She continued: "I have no idea what I'm doing. I was only supposed to be here 4 days. Now I don't know where I'm supposed to go or if I should stay here, it's all mad."

Amber said that she was trying to see the funny side of being stuck in a luxury resort, though admitted she was "fortunate" to be in this position.

She concluded: "I like to laugh my way through life because if you don't laugh, you'll cry. I've never not been in Newcastle with my family for Christmas."

"We left in Tier 3. Before we left we had to get a Covid test and did everything we could to follow the guidelines.

"Since arriving in Dubai we've had masks on where possible and we've not been mingling with lots of people.

She added: "We wouldn't have come if the government hadn't allowed us to."

Dawn revealed that her trip with Nicole had actually been in the diary from when Cheshire was in Tier 2.

"We booked the trip a month and a half before when Cheshire was in Tier 2. We're very aware of what's going on in the UK and it's dreadful."
