Simon Cowell has been on an quite the journey the last few years.

Although best known for his sharp tongue as a telly talent show judge, the 61-year-old music mogul has more recently been hitting headlines for his dramatic body transformation.

Just over three years ago, the X Factor judge decided to overhaul his unhealthy lifestyle and threw himself into veganism.

The wake-up call came following a traumatising incident at his home in Los Angeles.

The celebrity judge collapsed and fell down the stairs in 2017, and was rushed to hospital with fears that he had broken his neck.

The star made a full recovery, but it was a much-needed wake-up call for the formerly chain-smoking Simon, who admitted he had not been particularly healthy beforehand.

Following years of piling on the pounds, fans were stunned to see Simon’s transformation as he emerged with his slimmed down figure and chiselled jawline.

He was so dedicated to his fit frame that he was lifting weights and keeping a set of push-up bars backstage whenever he was filming one of his TV shows, so he could get pumped even when he was at work.

In May 2020, Simon revealed he had lost around four stone by following the meat- and dairy-free diet.

But Cowell’s new active life saw disaster strike when he had suffered an horrific accident last year.

Over the summer, Simon missed snapping his spin chord by ‘a centimetre' after he fell from his electric bike when testing it out at his Malibu home.

Simon needed six hours of emergency surgery and also had a rod inserted into his back to aid his recovery.

As a result of the dramatic accident, Simon was forced to cancel all of his television appearances and even pulled out of the Britain's Got Talent finals.

But Simon has shown near superhuman strength in his miraculous recovery.

Simon has continued to make good progress amid reports he is even doing gruelling workout sessions and walking around five miles a day.

He was recently spotted with a huge scar down his spine from his emergency surgery while he was enjoying a relaxing holiday in Barbados.

Even on vacation, Simon kept up his fitness and recovery regime and was seen stretching and lifting several small weights while on a lavish yacht.

His close friend Sinitta says his recovery is going from strength to strength.

“He’s come back from a really scary position and is feeling blessed because the outcome could have been so different," she told The Sun.

“Simon has worked hard at his recovery and told me he’s walking 10,000 steps a day; that’s around five miles – way more than he was before the accident.

"He’s got one of those watches that measures every step."

Sinitta revealed back in September that Simon had quit his vegan diet and started eating protein to get his weight back up.

The former singer added: “He’s still having a lot of physiotherapy, seeing great doctors and doing non weight bearing pool work especially for spinal injuries,

“Simon has really looked after himself. Lauren and his team have taken great care of him and he’s being sensible.”
