Adam Wedge and Esprit Du Large were unscathed following a dramatic fall on Welsh National day at Chepstow.

The Evan Williams-trained runner had taken the lead at the fourth last fence and looked to provide connections with a local winner.

However, Charlie Deutsch was biding his time on his closest rival Cepage (11-4) and joined Wedge's mount at the final fence.

Esprit Du Large went straight through the obstacle and gave Wedge no chance of staying aboard.

The horse galloped away as his jockey was helped to his feet by the on-course medical team – and he went to ride in the following race.

Wedge is due to partner Coral Welsh Grand National favourite Secret Reprieve later in the day.

Williams said: "Thankfully Adam seems OK."

She struck in the first race, the Play Coral 'Racing Super Series' For Free Maiden Hurdle, aboard Pozo Emery (7-2), before winning again just over an hour later on Storm Arising (6-1).
