Liam Payne has admitted it's “hard” seeing his son Bear, 3, during the coronavirus pandemic as he has to get tested for Covid-19 before visiting, despite living just minutes away.

The One Direction star has candidly opened up with details on the “complications” of co-parenting in a pandemic with his ex Cheryl Tweedy, and gave a rare insight into their arrangement.

Liam has co-parented Bear with singer Cheryl since their split in July 2018.

But the 27-year-old dad has confessed it’s been “hard” visiting his three-year-old son, despite him only living up the street as he has to ensure he's tested negative for the virus first.

Speaking during an Instagram Live with producer Ben Winston, Liam offered fans a rare insight into his relationship with his ex and their little boy.

He revealed on Thursday: “I went and saw Bear today we had a little hangout which was nice as I hadn't seen him in a couple of weeks.

“It's hard with the COVID thing as I have to make sure I'm negative before I go over and see him so it's having to wait that couple of days before you can test so…

“He's only up the street and it's dead complicated but he's gotten so big, huge.”

Cheryl, 37, lives with her mother Joan Callaghan and little Bear in a £3.7million Buckinghamshire mansion.

Liam has recently moved nearby with fiancée Maya Henry, renting a £5million seven-bed-mansion to be closer to his son.

England is currently in lockdown, which means households are banned from mixing, but separated parents are allowed to maintain contact.

Last month Cheryl revealed she and Liam were to spend Christmas together so they could both enjoy the festivities with their son.

In a rare interview recorded prior to strict Tier 4 restrictions, the former X Factor judge shared that the former couple were planning to spend December 25 together.

Speaking on Table Manners With Jessie Ware, Cheryl said: "It'll probably just be me, my mum and Liam.

"My mam makes a great roast, and Liam normally does the meat on Christmas. He's really good at it actually and puts his all into it."

Cheryl continued: "[We always watch] Home Alone the movie. Both. I always play them back to back. I love it. I think it's because it reminds me of when I was a kid. I love mulled wine.

"I love everybody to wear the same PJs on Christmas eve night… This year we're going to have Disney ones."
