EastEnders fans were left a little perplexed by Sonia Fowler's abrupt departure from the soap this evening – particularly considering her intended destination in the middle of a third lockdown in the UK.
Of course, the soaps film their episodes months in advance, so EastEnders would have had little idea that England would now be heading into yet another strict lockdown, preventing Brits from jetting off abroad until at least mid-February.
But it was a little unfortunate that nurse Sonia, played by actress Natalie Cassidy, announced her plan to leave Albert Square to fly off to India this evening… something that is near-on impossible at the moment due to the escalating cases of Covid-19 in the country.
Recently, viewers have watched Sonia struggle with exhaustion during endlessly long shifts nursing people back to health during the pandemic.

Speaking to ex Martin this evening in the Queen Vic, she revealed her plan to leave Walford for the time being.
"Things haven't been great," she told him. "I feel like I need to hit the reset button. So, I've decided to go to India and see Bex."
"Wow, ok," Martin replied, stunned. "That should do you some good. She'll love it. When are you going?"
"Tonight," Sonia replied. "Cheap flight turned up so I grabbed it."
Martin nodded and Sonia noticed his dim demeanour, pointing out that he could do with some cheering up too.
He then revealed that Ruby was pregnant – not realising that she could be lying to him.
Martin admitted to his ex that he didn't want another child, leading Sonia to urge him to speak to Ruby.
But fans were distracted by Sonia's big news that she was leaving Walford and took to Twitter to comment.
One wrote: "Sonia going to India in lockdown how did she manage that. #EastEnders."
While another commented: "Sonia you should know there is a pandemic and can't travel #EastEnders."
A third tweeted: "How did Sonia get a visa for India? #EastEnders."
"Sonia you shouldn’t be travelling to India there’s a pandemic on love #EastEnders," another joked.
