Manchester United are in a rich vein of form as Sunday’s victory over Southampton made it four wins in a row in all competitions.

Their revitalised form has seen Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side climb up to seventh in the Premier League table. If they were to win their game in hand, they would be just two points adrift of top spot.

The next few weeks could potentially define United’s season, with a congested fixture schedule bringing multiple games in quick succession across the Premier League and Champions League.

United will believe they can join the leading pack of clubs at the top of the standings domestically, as they also seek success in Europe’s foremost competition.

Solskjaer may be keen to dip into the transfer market in January, so here are the latest rumours involving his club.

Manchester United have reportedly identified Villarreal central defender Pau Torres as a target in the upcoming window.

A report from Teamtalk outlines how United are keen to beat a host of other interested clubs to a deal for the Spain international.

It is said that United are willing to offer some fringe players in exchange for Torres, with Eric Bailly mentioned as a possible makeweight.

Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof have emerged as Solskjaer’s first-choice centre-backs, with cover provided by Axel Tuanzebe.

Bailly is one of a number of players for whom United are seeking buyers, with Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo also likely to depart.

Calhanoglu to stay in Milan?

Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu could sign a new contract to remain at the club after all, despite links with Manchester United.

The Turkish midfielder is out of contract at San Siro next summer and had been tipped to move on as a free agent.

However, a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato states that Calhanoglu is willing to lower his demands in order to stay at Milan.

The Turkey international’s current deal is worth around £2.3million per year, and he was initially holding out for a pay rise.

And the latest report suggests that interest from United and Juventus was a negotiating ploy on behalf of his agent.

Almada tracked by United

Velez Sarsfield attacker Thiago Almada is being monitored by Manchester United, according to reports.

A story by Tuttomercatoweb claims the Argentine is the latest teenage prospect to be eyed up by the Red Devils.

The 19-year-old has netted 12 senior goals and provided four assists in his fledgling career with Velez, and is thought to be one of the brightest attacking talents in South America.

United appear keen to lower the average age of their squad. Teenage Uruguayan winger Facundo Pellistri joined United from Penarol in October, while fellow youngster Amad Diallo is set to arrive from Atalanta in January.
