We enjoyed a productive weekend with our football and boxing tips – selecting Southampton to lead at half-time and Manchester United to win at 20/1! as one of Sunday's two recommended bets, and backing Joe Joyce to win by stoppage at 11/2 on Saturday night .

Saturday's Premier League selections were less successful – but that 20/1 winner buys us plenty of credit at the bank!

Today we look at the Champions League …

Liverpool vs Ajax

Diogo Jota is following in the footsteps of legends at Anfield this season.

Sort of.

With two European hat-tricks for Wolves last season, the Liverpool forward already has one for the Reds during this season's Champions League group phase.

Only two Liverpool players have scored a brace of European hat-tricks in the same season – the legendary Graeme Souness in the triumphant 1981 European Cup campaign – and Dean Saunders a decade later in the UEFA Cup.

Jota celebrated his first Liverpool hat-trick in Atalanta – and with seven goals in his last six starts for the Reds he is 22/1 with thepools.com to take home another matchball from Anfield tonight.

We're not looking at that as a potential winner, though.

The draw tonight is 10/3 and is much more tempting.

Jurgen Klopp was unhappy at being asked to kick-off at 12.30pm at Brighton on Saturday after the Reds' last Champions League assignment, but at least that gave his players an extra few hours recovery time before the visit of Ajax – who kicked off at 5.45pm on Saturday night and strolled to a 5-0 win at FC Emmen.

Ajax have won seven of their last eight, the exception being a 2-2 draw at Atalanta.

They are unbeaten on their last five visits to England since losing at Aston Villa in the 2008-09 UEFA Cup – winning one and drawing four – and are unbeaten in their last 11 away games in the Champions League (W7 D4).

Liverpool have won only one of their last four and a point from tonight's game will be enough to guarantee qualification for the knockout stages as should they complete the group level on points with Ajax or Atalanta they would come out on top on the head to head.

Liverpool narrowly edged the reverse meeting between the pair, in the first match following Virgil van Dijk's season ending injury.

Liverpool are 4/6 for the victory, but given Ajax's impressive recent form Liverpool to win and Under 2.5 goals is 21/20 has more appeal.

Porto vs Man City

City have already secured their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League but Pep Guardiola insists he won't be resting players as he chases top spot in Group C.

City are odds on 4/6 to triumph in Portugal, after winning the opening matchday in the group against the Portuguese 3-1.

But since that night Porto haven't put a foot wrong in the group and have won six of their last seven in all competitions, keeping five clean sheets.

Porto have scored in every game so far this season and Both Teams To Score is 7/10 . If you double that with over 2.5 goals, also 7/10, you'd get nearly £19 proft from a tenner stake. City's Champions League matches over the last two seasons have averaged 3.61 goals per game.

Sergio Oliveira has scored one goal in all three of Porto’s Champions League wins this season – twice from the penalty spot. Meanwhile, City’s rising star Ferran Torres has scored in all three of his group stage matches to date. Oliveira is 12/1 first scorer and 4/1 any time , while Torres is 6/1 and 2/1 .
