Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has admitted that he is concerned about his side's lack of consistency, after they suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat to Alaves on Saturday.

An early penalty from former Arsenal and West Ham striker Lucas Perez and a second-half goal from ex-Newcastle and Stoke man Joselu earned Alaves the win, with Casemiro's late strike proving to be a consolation.

Real lost just three La Liga games last season as they won their 34th league title but they have already matched that record this season after ten games, losing to Cadiz, Valencia and now Alaves.

Speaking after the game, Zidane admitted: "I think that's the problem we are having at the moment. Consistency.

"That's why we have to try and improve. We've had a lot of injuries. We're not going to try to find excuses but that's the reality.

"Hopefully we can get players back for our next game and hopefully we can improve the dynamic in the squad overall because we have to change it. In three days we've played two completely different games.

"The difference between the Inter game and today is enormous. I don't really have the words to describe what’s happened but I know we're going to analyse the game today and think about changing things for our next game."

Real are currently fourth in the table and sit seven points behind league leaders Real Sociedad.

Star forward Eden Hazard also suffered a muscle problem in the first-half and had to be withdrawn.

Asked about the Belgian's injury, Zidane added: "Eden, I think and I hope it was just a simple knock. That's what he told us. That it's just a knock, that it's not muscular."

Real are back in action on Tuesday in the Champions League, when they make the trip to Ukraine to face Shakhtar Donetsk.
