This Morning hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes were sacked this week as the show decided to replace them with Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary.

But it's now been reported that since ITV do not want to employ the veteran presenters any more, the BBC is set to swoop in.

It is alleged that the BBC are planning to offer the married couple, both 60, their very own daytime show to fill their newly empty schedules.

A source told The Sun : "Eamonn and Ruth have a huge fanbase and are very experienced.

"They can easily carry any number of shows, so producers at the Beeb are considering handing them a format to front."

MirrorOnline has contacted reps for Ruth, Eamonn and the BBC for comment.

Since the pair were axed, Ruth hosted Loose Women where she cut to the This Morning studio beforehand to explain what was coming up.

In the studio were Phillip Schofield and Alison Hammond, and viewers were convinced Ruth was frosty towards her replacement, Alison.

One viewer tweeted: "Ruth speaking to Phil and ignoring Alison on this morning. Awkward."

Another cringed:" Alison waving to Ruth. Awkward #ThisMorning ".

"Slightly awkward that Alison is presenting #ThisMorning today and then Ruth pops up on loose women," pointed out another.

One more wrote: "How awkward was that? #thismorning speaking to Ruth #loosewomen as if he hasn’t had a massive helping hand in getting her and eamonn dumped off HIS show!"

OK! recently reported that Ruth and Eamonn were convinced they were dropped because of their age.

A source said: "The viewers love them, but Eamonn has said to Ruth he wonders if it’s because they’re both 60 and too old."

"It’s a real shame, Ruth and Eamonn are both telly legends – they've done it all, so it seems unfair."

And Ruth appeared to make a dig at Alison's reality TV career that began on Big Brother, when she said in an interview with Mirror Notebook: "We've put the work in.

"We didn't do a reality show and get an overnight job on the telly. We've come up through the ranks."
