In case you missed it, The Crown season 4 has created a lot of conversation.

The most recent season starring Olivia Colman as The Queen featured some dramatic storylines that have inspired much debate.

The episodes saw The Queen develop an icy relationship with controversial Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, played by Gillian Anderson.

Elsewhere, Prince Charles (Josh O'Connor) decided to settle down with Lady Diana Spencer (Emma Corrin), however, what seems to start as a fairytale grows all the more toxic.

As the season ends with Thatcher out of office and Princess Dian a poised to take on the Royal Family, just what can fans expect of the fifth run and when will it hit our screens on Netflix?

The Crown season 5 plot

The fifth season of The Crown will most likely be dominated by the collapse of Prince Charles and Princess Diana's marriage as Diana becomes an increasingly rogue element who has her own level of superstardom.

Meanwhile, The Queen's other children also face difficulties as both Princess Anne and Prince Andrew's own marriages each breakdown.

Elsewhere, Princess Margaret's health issues will continue to worsen.

Finally, we will continue to see the relationships between the Queen and her prime ministers, with next season focusing on her relations with Margaret Thatcher's successor, John Major.

We will probably also see the rise of Labour MP and Leader of the Opposition Tony Blair before he too enters Number 10.

Considering actress Elizabeth Debicki has been confirmed to star as Diana for both the fifth and sixth seasons, we can likely expect season 5 to end prior to 1997 – when Diana tragically died in a car crash in Paris and also the year where Tony Blair was elected to be PM.

The Crown season 5 will likely air in 2022.
