Mason Greenwood is back in contention for Manchester United after missing nine days of training through illness, according to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Greenwood has not played for United since coming on as a late substitute in a 2-1 defeat away to Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League on November 4.

The forward has endured a difficult second full season with United, after scoring 17 goals in his debut campaign, but boss Solskjaer said he had no doubts the 19-year-old will prove his enduring worth once he is fully fit and recovered.

"You have to take a step back sometimes," said Solskjaer.

"The boy's only 19, he's had a fantastic year, but if we go a year back I left him out of the Carabao Cup game against Chelsea.

"Mason stayed behind and played against Doncaster in the Checkatrade Trophy for game-time, so that's how far he's come.

"He's got 19 goals in total, made his England debut, scored in his first Under-21s game and the headlines are going to be about when he scores and why he doesn't play.

"Everyone's allowed to not be well. He's been away eight or nine days from training, but I have no doubts about him. He has a very good head on him and the talent is there for all to see."

United will be without three players for tomorrow's visit of West Brom, with Solskjaer adding: "The short version is it's Luke Shaw, Jesse Lingard and Phil Jones. They are the only ones who didn't join in parts of the training today.

"Some are in different stages after internationals, recoveries and working back after fitness, and we'll make a decision tonight, but most of them have joined in today and yesterday, so it's looking good.

"Some of them are probably doubts. Marcus [Rashford] joined for the first time today, so hopefully there's no reaction there, it was Eric Bailly's first day back today, so no, and Victor [Lindelof], we'll have to check tomorrow, because his back is not great."
