Jade Thirwall has opened up about the future of Little Mix in the wake of the news Jesy Nelson is to take an extended break from the band.

Jesy, 29, announced on Tuesday that she is taking a hiatus from the X Factor winning group for 'private health reasons.'

The decision leaves bandmates Jade, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock to continue the promotion of their sixth studio album Confetti as a trio.

This weekend the threesome will take part in their first public appearance since Jesy's statement as they perform on the Jonathan Ross show.

Ahead of their time on the chat show, Jade was quizzed about what was in store for Little Mix after Jesy's news during a chat with Hit network's Ash London on Thursday.

Getting brutally honest, Jade admitted: "You know, eventually in the future we might go off and do our own bits and bobs – but Little Mix will literally never die.

"We've always said that – we're like, we always need Little Mix," she assured fans.

Jade added she and her bandmates look forward to pursuing other projects as she revealed what she would like to do next.

"I think it's nice that people are starting to do their own bits and bobs. I definitely want to travel more and see more fans all over the world," she said.

Since Jesy's announcement, it has emerged that she spoke of her desire to have sometime away from her bandmates who she said she was with all day every day.

Discussing taking a break from the girls earlier this month, Jesy said: "It was needed. We're never not with each other and we're always busy. Our mornings start early, we finish really late."

In the past few weeks Jesy missed the final of the band's BBC One talent show The Search and pulled out of their hosting gig at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

A source close to the band told The Sun that they are already plotting their solo careers.

"The girls have been open and honest with each other, and with their current management team.

"They have started discussions with some prospective managers and agents about what their solo careers might look like.

"Some of the girls might end up taking on solo projects with their current management team too. But this isn't about ending the band, it's about looking to the future."
