Jesy Nelson welcomed a time away from her bandmates when the Coronavirus pandemic led to a lockdown in the spring.

The singer, 29, shocked fans this week when she revealed in a statement plans to take a temporary hiatus from the group for "private medical reasons".

And in an interview printed days before her announcement, the hitmaker explained that when the first nationwide lockdown hit the UK, at the end of March, she was glad for the time away from commitments alongside her bandmates – Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall.

Speaking to You Magazine, when asked on how she found lockdown, Jesy explained: "It was needed. We're never not with each other and we're always busy. Our mornings start early, we finish really late."
