World champion boxer Terri Harper has been slapped with a £4,000 bill for surgery after she retained her world title on Saturday night at Wembley Arena.

Despite suffering a broken hand during the fourth round, she managed to stop Norwegian fighter Katharina Thanderz in the ninth round to claim victory and defend her WBC and IBO super-featherweight titles.

The win was soured somewhat though when she revealed she would have to stump of £4,000 to pay for the surgery on her crocked hand, labelling it “a lesson for not having insurance”.

However, she was no doubt smiling again when Matchroom chief and promoter Eddie Hearn stepped in to foot the ball, describing it as a “bonus for a great performance”.

Harper, also known as Belter, sent her thanks to Hearn for the “kind gesture”, posting a snippet of their chat for her 29,000 followers to see on Instagram.

The 24-year-old had also posted a break down of the full bill, while a picture of her swollen hand and an X-ray that showed a shuddering break in the bone below her forefinger have also been shared.

Harper tweeted her thanks for the support that she had received on Sunday.

“On cloud 9 from last night!!” she wrote on Twitter.

“Thank you to everyone who shown me their love and support over the last week.

“Going to enjoy a nice rest, let the hand heal then get back to work, we’ve got some belts to collect.”

Harper already has her eyes set on her next fight, and it seems she wants to take a step towards unifying the super-featherweight belts with a bout against WBO world champion Mikaela Mayer.

“I got a few stoppage wins early on in my career so it's nice to get another one,” she said after the win over Thanderz.

“I’m going to say a big thank you to my S&C coach Danny Wilson, he's given me the confidence that I can go through those gears and that I have got the strength. God knows what I'm going to be like after my next camp.

“I want to fight the best. I'm coming for you Mayer! Slowly but surely we'll get there and I'll be punching you in the face very soon.”
