Three homes evacuated after man found dead from ‘hazardous substances’

Three households have had to be evacuated after a man was found dead in his home with a 'hazardous substance'.

The man, in his 40s, was declared dead upon arrival of emergency services, Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed.

Officers believe the hazardous substance is the cause of death.

The road where he lived in Cullompton, Devon, was closed and three nearby houses had to be evacuated.

Four people were given emergency accommodation.

The man's death is not being treated as suspicious and his family have been informed.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: ''Police were called at around 10.30am yesterday, Tuesday, November 17, with a report of concern for the welfare of a man in a property on Stones Place, Cullompton.

''A man in his 40s was declared deceased upon the arrival of emergency services.

''Initial enquiries suggested that a hazardous substance was the likely cause of death.

''As a result, safeguarding against contamination has been paramount.

''The scene was contained in a joint effort by police and fire crews and a road closure was implemented and is still in place this morning.

''Enquiries are continuing this morning and include arrangements for the safe removal of the body.''
