The New Scream Film Wraps Shooting, Is Called… Scream
In this age of reboots, remakes and multiple sequels, there's an odd naming convention that sometimes happens with movies, and particularly the horror genre. The latest Scream film, which given its sequel status you might think would be called Scream 5, has wrapped up shooting and will be called, er, Scream.
Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original films and is an executive producer on the new one, shared the news of the wrap on social media (you can find his tweet below), including word of the title. Which, if you ask us, is just plain confusing.
Ready Or Not directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett oversaw this one, with a script from Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt. The likes of Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette returned from the original films, with Jack Quaid, Jenna Ortega and Kyle Gallner among the new recruits. The plot is mostly being kept quiet, but you just know it involves more killer mayhem in the town of Woodsboro.
Here's Williamson's statement: "That’s a wrap on Scream, which I’m excited to announce is the official title of the next film! Nearly 25 years ago, when I wrote Scream and Wes Craven brought it to life, I could not have imagined the lasting impact it would have on you, the fans. I’m excited for you to return to Woodsboro and get really scared again. I believe Wes would’ve been so proud of the film that Matt and Tyler are making. I’m thrilled to be reunited with Neve, Courteney, David and Marley, and to be working alongside a new filmmaking team and incredible cast of newcomers that have come together to continue Wes’s legacy with the upcoming relaunch of the franchise that I hold so dear to my heart."
The new Scream is scheduled to stalk into cinemas in January 2022.
