Ruthie Henshall has admitted that she didn't realise she was signing up for I'm A Celebrity in North Wales when she first put pen to paper.

The musical theatre actress, 53, is a late entry on the hit ITV show alongside Russell Watson.

But she was hoping for a rather warmer welcome – and not from the campmates, but the wet and windy location itself.

Speaking to the Mirror Online and other news outlets, Ruthie said: "At the time, I had no idea when I said yes it would be in Wales. As far as we were concerned, when we signed up I was going to a nice hot jungle!

"But in actual fact I think it's brilliant that it's in Wales. I think it's brilliant that this British show that is so loved by the audiences has come home, be it for how long, we don't know. It may be for one year.

"How lovely that a bunch of people in the United Kingdom are getting paid? I'm not just talking about the cast, I'm talking about all the people that it takes on this show. And I just think it's so fantastic that we're in the beautiful Welsh countryside in a big part of history – an old castle."

Ruthie also confessed she is worried about the withdrawal symptoms she might suffer from her coffee addition.

"I was trying to cut out coffee because I'm completely addicted," she said. "I've got myself down to a double espresso a day so I'm probably going to have horrific headaches and withdrawals when I'm in there.

"And last night – bear it in mind I've been in lockdown for two weeks and a week of that having no phone and no computer, no nothing and certifiably bonkers by now… I mean, really bonkers.

"Talking to myself bonkers! So you think, I was absolutely getting myself into gear to start cutting down on food, only really having an evening meal. I have been so bored I have eaten my body weight!

"So all of the things I said I would try and do to prepare have gone completely up the swanny!"
