A crafty mum in desperate need of a new carpet saved hundreds of pounds with a cheaper alternative using £20 B&M rugs.

The savvy budgeteer said she hated her old flooring but could not afford to splash out £800 on a new carpet.

Instead, she picked up six cosy grey rugs from B&M and slotted them together across her living room floor.

The DIY mum said she loves the new look which has also made space for her children to play, creating the illusion of a room split in two.

Sharing her success on Facebook, she said: "Hated my floor I had down as couldn’t afford to pay out over £800 on carpet.

Others on the Facebook group are now considering using the DIY hack in their own homes

"So I have been and split my room with rugs from B&M – £20 got six which cost £120. Love how it looks."

The woman shared her clever idea on the DIY On A Budget Facebook group where others praised the design, The Sun reports.

Her creative hack may have sparked a new trend, with one person liking it so much that she is considering using it for her own home.

She said: "I think this is a brilliant idea. Wonder it I could do this in my son's room."

Another person added:"It looks lovely. Will be so cosy in the winter. Well done."

Fellow DIY fans pointed out the practicalities of the mum's innovative solution to expensive carpets.

One said:"Looks fabulous. What a great idea. If you have spillage, just lift and replace it."

While another commented: "That is creative. You could get carpet tape from a flooring store and secure the edges together. You did a good job."

Meanwhile, another mum was praised for her own alternative to expensive new carpet when she wallpapered her floor for just £23.

Robyn Westrope-Lane ripped up her carpets and replaced them with colourful timber-effect wallpaper which she shared with the Facebook group.

She told fellow DIYers she was "stoked with the outcome" which took her no time at all.
