A stuffed carrot named Kevin is causing chaos among Aldi shoppers after the supermarket released the toy that stars in its Christmas adverts for sale online this morning.

Last year, there were reports that customers were seen fighting over the lovable vegetable in stores, as desperate fans 'pushed and shoved' one another to get their hands on the range of plush toys.

This time round Aldi has initially released Kevin merchandise online only, using an online queuing system and limiting each shopper to a maximum of two toys to help manage demand.

But it appears many shoppers severely underestimated the popularity of Kevin, with many logging on before the 8am release time to find more than 150,000 people ahead of them in the queue.

People have reported waiting on the website for two and a half hours, only to find the toys they were after were sold out when they got through.

Others shared screenshots of the message they were given when they tried to log on to the website, with many showing they were allocated a queue number of over 10 million and stating there were currently more than 150,000 people ahead of them.

Aldi replied to customers who asked when the plush toys would be available in stores to say: "Due to unprecedented demand and to aid with social distancing we are staggering the launch of Kevin the Carrot merchandise by selling online first at 8am on Sunday 15th November and in-store from Sunday 6th December onwards."

Aldi's preview for this year's Christmas advert shows Kevin flying a fighter jet alongside Lieutenant Turkey, taking inspiration from blockbuster film Top Gun.

This year's toys feature pilot Kevin wearing his helmet and the product has already appeared on eBay with bids racking up as shoppers fear missing out altogether.

The full range also includes tree decorations, a gift mug, and pyjamas.
