EastEnders spoilers for next week – suicide fears, assault and a one night stand

EastEnders has been a gloomy place for Mel Owen and Ruby Allen – and sadly it’s not going to get much brighter.

Mel is forced to hide knives in her home and even considers calling the police about Ray Kelly’s death, as she fears for her son Hunter’s mental health.

And Ruby has a surprise one night stand, but she struggles to deal with this as her rape comes back to haunt her.

Here’s what’s coming up in Albert Square.

Mel is trying to hold everything together as she tries considers telling the police about Ray Kelly’s death, and tries to help her son Hunter.

First, Mel decides to lock Hunter in the house for his own good as she has no other options available.

With his unnerving behaviour spiralling out of control, she also decides to hide all the knives in the house to keep him safe, which comes after Hunter runs away and leaves his mother waiting in despair for him to return.

Worried Mel also has to deal with Maddie when she storms into the E20 office demanding her share of Ray’s money, but Mel finally snaps when Maddie makes a comment about Hunter and grabs her in anger.

She refuses to help and terrifies Maddie, while witness Billy is left stunned.

When Billy emphasises with her situation, apologetic Mel realises that she can’t confess all to the police, but is later relieved when Hunter returns home.

But Mel is shocked when she finds out where he has been, and as a last resort she locks him in the house before heading to the Mitchell’s to give Phil a proposition.

She offers her share of the club, but has to dash back home when Hunter calls to say the police have arrived.

Mel discovers that her son has issued threats to Maddie and Nicola and is unsettled by his attitude, so she decides to accept Phil’s offer and tells Hunter they are leaving Albert Square.

Despite him offering way below the value, Mel realises that she can’t stay around with Hunter drawing so much attention – but will they actually leave?

Horrified Ruby, who was the victim of a sexual assault last year, wakes up to an empty bed after spending the night with charming Jay.

With visions of that horrible night at the hands of Martin Fowler’s friends still fresh in her mind, Ruby is full of fear about what happened, while Jay is unaware of any issues and gushes to Keanu Taylor about how amazing Ruby is.

Ruby confides in best pal Stacey and admits she still hasn’t heard from Jay since sleeping with him, but Stacey tries to relieve her concerns with some advice and defends Jay’s character.

However, Ruby gets the wrong end of the stick and angrily confronts Jay at work.

There is another twist when she gets home and finds a lovely note from Jay left on her fridge.

But it’s not just these two who are affected, as another couple is also rocked by Ruby and Jay’s one night stand.

Martin’s reaction to the news annoys Stacey and she storms off, so Ruby decides to help her mate and sets up a double date with the Fowlers and invites Jay.

Martin has a change of heart as he sees how good they are together, while Ruby is flattered when Jay helps her land a new client for her events company.

Is this the start of a blossoming romance?

EastEnders airs Mondays and Fridays at 8pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC1.
