Dancing On Ice’s most dramatic week yet – from Melody Thornton’s headbanger to Gemma Collins’ face-plant

This weekend’s Dancing On Ice was the most dramatic yet.

Gemma Collins sensationally fell on her face, Ryan Sidebottom couldn’t perform due to an injury, Melody Thornton performed an incredible and dangerous headbanger and Didi Conn was sent home.

In his weekly column, the show’s associate director Dan Whiston exclusively tells Mirror Online what’s been going on behind the scenes during a "stressful" week…

The past week has been a stressful time for all our skating couples as everyone has realised that just putting in a good performance isn’t enough, they need to bring their A game.

As a result there have been quite a few bumps and bruises this week, as our celebrities have been pushing themselves to their absolute limit during training.

It was really sad news that due to medical reasons Ryan Sidebottom couldn’t perform in the show but myself and the whole Dancing on Ice team have everything crossed he’ll be ok for next week.

After really battling with his nerves last week, James Jordan seemed to take control of them on Sunday and put on a very confident performance that had him quick stepping to 2nd place on the leaderboard.

Gemma Collins left the GC at home this week and skated onto the ice with real determination and with something to prove.

She was doing so well up until towards the end of her routine when she fell but to her credit she got straight back up, put on a smile and finished the routine. And she achieved her highest score to date.

Melody Thornton proved she was more of a fearless lioness than a pussycat this week, when she tried the headbanger.

I know she was really worried she might crack her head on the ice but she pulled it off brilliantly and her performance was packed full of complex skating steps.

It’s no wonder she got to the top spot on the leaderboard.

I really didn’t expect to see Saara Aalto and Didi Conn in the skate-off. I was absolutely gutted to see Didi leave, and I wasn’t the only one, as there were lots of tears backstage …….what a legend and a lady.
