Shipwrecked fans accuse show of ‘trying to be like Love Island’ by ‘sexing up’ series

Excited Shipwrecked viewers were left bitterly disappointed this evening after the much-anticipated series returned after a decade-long break.

The E4 show kicked off tonight for the first time in almost 10 years, but those hoping for a good dose of the much-loved series were left dejected as they accused the show of "trying to be Love Island".

As the show aired tonight, viewers watched as a number of ‘social media influencers’ were speed-boated onto the island.

Most of the irritation stemmed from the fact that, unlike the previous series where contestants had to fend for themselves by building shelters and more, the stars were instead allowed to wear heels and make-up.

"I miss the old Shipwrecked! No luxury items, no “sleeping quarters” and no bloody drill! Everyone looked like s***, had s*** jobs and weren’t there to find a boyfriend/girlfriend #Shipwrecked," another pointed out.

One commented: "Is it just me or does the new #Shipwrecked look basically like a knock off #LoveIsland?"

Shipwrecked first launched in 1999 and aired for three series until 2001.

It was then rebooted in 2006 and was rebranded as Shipwrecked: Battle of the Islands, running until 2009.
