Penny Lancaster feared seven-year-old son had DIED after finding him unconscious

Penny Lancaster has revealed the horrifying moment she feared her seven-year-old son had DIED.

The Loose Women panelist described finding her son unconscious as the ‘most frightening experience of her life’.

Penny, 47, found Aiden face down at the bottom of the stairs just before Christmas after hearing a tremendous thud.

She admitted her initial thought was that her son was dead as she frantically tried to assess his condition.

Unfortunately, husband Rod Stewart was away on tour at the time and Penny had to face the traumatic experience alone.

Speaking on today’s Loose Women, she said: "It was the most frightening thing I’ve ever experienced in my life.

"I was just off the main hallway where the main staircase is. I heard this ‘boom, boom, boom’.

"Huge thud down the stairs. It sounded like a piece of furniture going down.

"I rushed through the door, didn’t see anything in the stairwell, and saw my seven-year-old face down unconscious.

"My first thought was he’s dead. "He’s not moving. I can’t hear a sound."

Penny rushed over and screamed out for someone to call 999 – fearing her son may be paralysed.

She continued: "I was shaking but trying to be calm telling him ‘it’s OK darling, can you hear me, keep still’.

"He was making these groaning noises and couldn’t even speak. I went through all the worst scenarios. He’s broken his neck, he’s going to be paralysed."

A quick response team arrived shortly before an ambulance to take Aiden to hospital.

Penny described the NHS as "incredible" as they put her son in a back brace and rushed him to a unit of 12 people.

Fortunately, after getting the X-ray results, they realised that he was unharmed.

Penny spent the night in hospital with her son and he made a full recovery.

She admitted she would have been powerless to prevent the accident.

She added: "It was a scary moment but you have to let children be children."
