Emmerdale star James Moore explains THAT NTA acceptance when he fell on stage

Emmerdale’s James Moore has revealed how he ended up on his mate’s back and falling on stage to collect his NTA Award.

The star, who plays Ryan Stocks on the soap, became the first disabled NTA winner when he won the gong for Best Newcomer last Tuesday.

But what turned heads was his friend, Glenn, who ushered him onto his back and carried him onto the stage, before the excitement got the better of them and they spun around on the stage, before Glenn dropped James onto the stage.

In an interview with This Morning’s Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, James and Glenn explained why they ran onto the stage in the way they did.

Turning to Glenn, who was watching James’ interview from off-camera, said: "We were just having a good time, you know?

"James said he wanted me to go on stage with him if he won, so I kind of said, ‘Right, if you win I’m giving you a piggy back.’

"We got to the moment and I said, ‘Are we doing this,’ and he said, ‘Yeah, screw it.’ So he jumped on my back…"

James laughed as the moment was recalled, after Phil emphatically confirmed Glenn was no carer for James at all.

He also talked about his activism and why he tries his best to use social media to get the word out about disabilities in the TV industry.

James said: "I would like to get into a position where we’re putting more disabled people into the industry and casting them in more roles, because there are a lot out there. In my own work and my own public stuff like Twitter I’m trying to advocate for more.

"I think it’s a great tool to use for activism and speaking up and getting your voice heard. I’ve always been aware there are a lot of barriers to it which is why I didn’t go to drama school the first time.

"But at the end of the day, especially considering how more open we’re getting in the modern day, I think now would be a good time to throw what I’ve got in and see what happens. I never thought that I’d be getting the role on Emmerdale."

When asked about his first audition, he said: "The first one was pretty scary… there’s no expression whatsoever, they don’t give you any indication of what’s going on.

"Then the screen-test was even more nerve-wracking because I was on set with Emma Atkins doing a scene on the actual set with cameras around me, so that was even more intense.

"But Emma was lovely and I feel we’ve bonded really well."

On the award win, he said he still can not believe how far he has come.

He added: "It still doesn’t feel real that I’m sat here talking to you and that I won at the NTAs, you know. The moment I won the award, that 15 minutes after that was just a blur, I can’t remember any of it.

"I know I can’t believe it’s been such short time but the public really seems to have taken to my character and to me as an actor, and to have that kind of recognition and appreciation so early on in my career, essentially means the world to me. It’s incredible."

This Morning airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV and Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm and again at 8pm on Thursdays on ITV.
