Brazilian actor Caio Junqueira has died at the age of 42 a week after his horrific car accident.
The star of Netflix series O Mecanismo (The Mechanism) died in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Rio de Janeiro’s Miguel Couto Hospital.
Caio, a former child star who started acting at the age of seven, had crashed his car into a tree at high speeds on January 16.
He was rushed to hospital with open fractures, severe chest trauma and heavy blood loss after witnesses claimed they saw his car crossing the lane, mounting the curb and hitting he tree "violently".

He was kept in the hospital’s coronary unit for treatment, but his condition remained severe over the following days.
Colleagues and friends started a social media campaign for blood donations, but Caio succumbed to his injures at 5.15am on Wednesday.
The actor’s body was taken to the São João Batista Cemetery on Thursday for viewing.

Fans have been visiting the chapel where his body lies to mourn and pay tribute.
Caio was the son of the Brazilian actor Fábio Junqueira and brother of the actor Jonas Torres.
He found fame in telenovelas – Brazilian soaps – and had his big break in the 2004 film Escrava Isaura.
