Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford watch TV in different rooms at home

Eamonn Holmes and his wife Ruth watch TV in separate rooms because their viewing habits are so different.

TV and radio journalist Eamonn says he is into live news, current affairs and football, while Ruth Langsford loves Strictly Come Dancing and soaps.

Eamonn, 59, told the Series Linked podcast: “Even if she was luring me in [to her room], she would actually say ‘You can come in here, only if you don’t ask any questions. You can’t ask… don’t be interrupting me with anything’.”

The couple are more likely to be together on-screen, as they host Channel 5’s consumer series, Do the Right Thing.

They are also due to start fronting a Sunday version of This Morning on ITV later this month.

Eamonn spoke out about the couple’s TV viewing habits just over a week after he sparked outrage by calling Ruth Langsford "very fat".

The This Morning presenter shocked viewers at the start of the first show of the year by making ‘derogatory comments’ to his wife.

The pair were talking about New Year’s resolutions when Eamonn revealed that Ruth was using an app to count calories.

He said: "Ruth has done the typical trap where she said lose weight – obviously.

"She’s got one of these app things that told her how many calories she’s restricted to, bearing in mind her bulk, how much intake she can have a day."

Ruth explained that for her "bulk, age and height" she was only allowed 1,200 calories a day.

Butting in, Eamonn said: "That’s because you’re very fat – that’s why."

Shocked Ruth got a bit flustered as she tried to laugh off the surprising remarks.

Anticipating a public backlash, she said: "Oh my goodness you’re going to get ‘stop being mean to your wife’."
