Sitting casually with one flabby tracksuited leg draped over the other – Levi Bellfield smirked as he squeakily parroted off "no comment" to desperate cops searching for Milly Dowler’s killer.
But behind the casual facade was a savage, maniacal murderer with Surrey schoolgirl Milly’s blood over his hands.
As ITV drama Manhunt depicts one copper’s valiant fight for justice for Bellfield’s victims, the murder of Milly has been thrust back into the public’s consciousness.
She vanished in "the blink of eye" back in 2002.

- Manhunt – Here’s what Colin Sutton and evil killer Levi Bellfield look like
A string of Surrey Police investigative errors, CCTV mistakes and Bellfield’s Walton-On-Thames address being overlooked came together in a horrendous storm allowing the homicidal wheel clamper to evade justice for Milly for almost a decade.
Bellfield is currently serving a whole life sentence for Milly’s abduction, rape and murder. Milly was snatched from the street by Bellfield while on her way from school to her home in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey.
Police knocked ten times at the door of Bellfield’s rented flat, this was 50 yards from where Milly was last seen alive but they got no response but did not follow up and check the identity of the tenant with the landlord.
Bellfield sneers at cops
Her body was found in a wood in Yateley Heath, Hampshire – 25 miles from Walton-on-Thames.
Bellfield pleaded not guilty to her murder in 2011 forcing the Dowler family to relive the horror of her disappearance nine years on.
On the day of his conviction Surrey Police released a chilling interview where they attempted to grill the killer. Sneering at cops Bellfield refuses to answer any questions.
His police interview came as Bellfield was arrested – and subsequently convicted of in 2008 – the murders of Marsha McDonnell and Amélie Delagrange and the attempted murder of Kate Sheedy.
DC Colin Sutton made the connection between Amelie’s death and Milly’s murder after spotting a white van on CCTV – there began a painstaking investigation into the killer, which is dramatised in Manhunt.
