Actor James Buckley has apologised after The Inbetweeners reunion special was blasted by fans for being "painfully bad".
The Inbetweeners: Fwends Reunited aired on New Year’s Day – four years after Will, Jay, Neil and Simon were last seen together in the series’ second film.
However the special was largely panned by Channel 4 viewers after many discovered that it was a chat show rather than an episode.
Many fans also criticised Jimmy Carr’s hosting, which was labelled "awkward and cringey".
And actor James, who played Jay in the series, has taken the criticism hard and has admitted that he feels "pretty hated" since the special aired.

He also went on to apologise to fans and said that he was "especially upset as it really is the fans that made the Inbetweeners a success".
Taking to Twitter the morning after the show aired, James wrote: "Feeling pretty hated right now. Im sorry to anyone who feels let down with last nights show.
"Im especially upset as it really is the fans that made the inbetweeners a success, it certainly wasnt me. I might do an explanation video on my YT, or might just leave it & move on #sorry."
In response, a number of fans insisted that it wasn’t the cast’s fault and that the format and hosting was a "shambles".
One tweeted: "Nah it wasn’t you mate I thought you were very good on it The format was just a bit meh and as much as I like Jimmy Carr he was completely wrong for it."
While another commented: "To be honest the 4 of you looked pretty embarrassed to be there. Some good bits and it’s always nice reliving parts of such a great programme. I wouldn’t apologise, just get onto the writers about a third film."

A third remarked: "It had great potential but tbh the host ruined it! Wanted to hear more from you guys, but don’t feel you had the chance to fully contribute. I was expecting outtakes, funny stories etc."
Last night, viewers flocked to Twitter to hit out at the awkward reunion.
One commented: "Why does everyone seem like they don’t want to be there? #FwendsReunited."
While another remarked: "I was in the front row and i was bored s***less, and so were the cast. Greg davies was the only one who had life. #FwendsReunited."
A fan fumed: "surely I can’t be the only one that thought the #FwendsReunited would be a proper f***ing ep looking at what the characters lives are like now since we last saw them?? I wanted to see jay w kids shouting FWENDS not f***ing jimmy carr!! #inbetweeners."
