Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle left fighting for survival as Joe Tate ‘returns’

Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle was left fighting for survival tonight after he was savagely attacked.

The village’s resident hardman was brutally beaten by Matty Barton’s nasty ex Isaac and his gang of mates.

The mechanic went to get revenge on the lads after they attacked Matty on New Year’s Eve and removed his top in a humiliating attack.

Furious Cain cornered Isaac and was about to punch him before memories of Joe Tate’s ‘death’ came back to haunt him.

The traumatic experience made Cain stop in his tracks and let Isaac go unharmed, which had devastating consequences.

Isaac returned moments later with his pals but Cain remained calm and headed back to his car.

They began to taunt Cain, who assured them that it was their "lucky day", before they started attacking him.

The lads started punching Cain as they beat him to a pulp, leaving him with a nasty cut to the eye.

Isaac said: "This is what you asked for big fella. That tranny is gonna be well impressed."

The group all then started kicking lifeless Cain as he collapsed to the floor.

Ironically, Moira left a message on Cain’s phone telling him not to be too hard on the bullies.

As darkness fell, bloodied and bruised Cain managed to haul himself into his car.

Will Cain tell the truth about the shocking attack?

Emmerdale viewers took to Twitter after watching the uncomfortable scenes.

One viewer said: "Cain nooooooo! My favourite bad boy!"

"I’m sorry but honestly? Seriously? Cain getting beaten to a pulp? I actually feel ill," added another.

A third said: "Cain has definitely changed the Hardman has gone! Cheers Graham and Joe!! Cain would of knocked these guys out to six few months back.."

*Emmerdale continues tomorrow on ITV at 7pm
