Doctor Who fans livid at ‘cheap’ Brexit joke and slam BBC for ‘propaganda’

Doctor Who fans are livid after Jodie Whittaker’s Time Lord made a ‘cheap’ Brexit joke.

Viewers were fuming when the titular character made a jibe at Brexit during the New Year’s Day special – Resolutions.

The Doctor and her companions had to face a terrifying evil from across the centuries.

But she still found time to poke fun at Brexit during a phone call to UNIT – the Unified Intelligence Task Force.

The Doctor told the call handler that the fate of the Earth was at stake and she needed help urgently.

When the Doctor asked for UNIT, the person on the other end of the line said: “Oh, I’m so sorry. UNIT operations have been suspended, pending review.”

The stunned Doctor replied: “What? No, it can’t have been. UNIT is a fundamentally vital protection for planet Earth against alien invasion. What happened to it?”

The call handler said: “All UNIT operations were put on hold following financial disputes and subsequent funding withdrawal by the UK’s major international partners.”

The baffled Doctor cried "are you kidding" as her face dropped.

The operator added: “Other armed forces are available if you could answer a couple of questions on how I may best direct your call.”

Ending the call, the Doctor told her friends: “We’re on our own.”

One viewer said: "I cannot f***ing believe that the BBC are now peddling their anti-brexit propaganda bulls*** with #DoctorWho . Oh…hang on…of course I can

Another added: "Hang on… #DoctorWho spent several minutes establishing that UNIT wouldn’t be showing up, via a cheap Brexit gag – and then ten minutes later brought in a bunch of soldiers anyway..?"

A third said: "As if austerity and Brexit weren’t already bad enough, now we find out that even UNIT isn’t safe from the cutbacks! This is truly the final straw. #StopBrexit"

While a fourth added: "No way Brexit killed UNIT I’m livid."
