Coronation Street viewers were in disbelief tonight after Lewis Archer was killed off.
The former conman, who stole thousands from the Platt family, unexpectedly died on New Year’s Day.
In a devastating twist, Audrey Roberts headed to the bedroom and found his lifeless body on the bedroom floor.
To make it even more tragic, poor Lewis was still holding an engagement ring in his hand.
Gail was convinced he was trying to steal her mum’s money, but Lewis had actually planned to propose to Audrey before heading to Barbados.

Holding his body, Audrey said: “Oh my goodness Lewis. Come on love. Can you hear me?”
Tears streamed down her face as she found the box containing the engagement ring.
Audrey revealed that Lewis had gone to the doctors that morning after complaining about pains in his shoulder and chest.

She blamed Gail for making her think Lewis was lying.
Audrey shouted: “He was going to ask me to marry him and I would have said yes. He was so fed up with you really. He was tired of being haunted. He’d had enough. And so have I.”
Gail apologised, but Audrey told her daughter to leave as she cradled Lewis in her arms.

Lewis’ death has led some viewers to predict who the new supervillain will be.
Corrie bosses have teased that one current character will turn evil and be responsible for a death when the factory roof collapses.
One viewer predicted: "I was saying that Lewis’ exit could be the reason why Nick is or is not the new villain. Judging Lewis’ death, I think Nick could easily be the new villain"
Could Nick be the new supervillain?
Heartbroken Corrie viewers took to Twitter after watching the emotional scenes.
One viewer said: "Cain nooooooo! My favourite bad boy!"
Another added: "I’m sorry but honestly? Seriously? Cain getting beaten to a pulp? I actually feel ill"
A third said: "Cain has definitely changed the Hardman has gone! Cheers Graham and Joe!! Cain would of knocked these guys out to six few months back.."
