EastEnders has revealed dark details of Ray Kelly’s murderous past and link to Phil Mitchell in a brand new episode of their podcast.
Little is known about the shady villain, who uses multiples identities and has two wives, with Mel Owen set to become his third on New Year’s Day.
Listeners were taken back to 2003 to discover how Mel and Ray’s romance blossomed in Portugal while she was living with Lisa Fowler.
The pair met in a rehabilitation centre after Mel attempted to kill herself while struggling to look after baby son Hunter in the wake of Steve Owen’s death.
During a group therapy session, his first words were: "I’m a murderer."

Ray went on to explain that he is an undercover cop who kills people in the line of duty.
They got talking for first time in horse riding lesson, with Ray claiming he had been single for five years.
The couple spent the night together and Mel returned home with her "glow back".
Flatmate Lisa was not happy that she was moving on with Ray, but Mel insisted it was just a "fling".

Lisa and Mel were living together in a flat in Portugal
Ray and Mel went on a disastrous date where he was forced to run out of the hospital after having a panic attack.
He wanted to end their relationship but Mel invited him back to hers and they started kissing.
Lisa was not pleased to find Ray in their flat the morning afterwards, especially when he creeped up on her.

After accidentally upsetting Lisa with a comment about Louise, she explained about her daughter’s "thug of a father".
Speaking to Mel, she said: "I told him about Lou earlier. He said he’d try and help get her back. He knows people. If anyone is a match for Phil it’s him."
This could be foreshadowing a titanic clash between Ray, who has grown close to Louise while living in Albert Square, and Walford hardman Phil.
Ray has known about Phil for a long time
Ray and Mel went from strength to strength and he formed a close bond with young Hunter.
But their perfect life was put in jeopardy when Ray discovered a private detective sent by his wife had been following him.
Conniving Ray tried to bribe the detective but he said he would not be corrupted.
"It’s a lovely view up here. Can see for miles," said Ray.
Ray is capable of murder
When the detective insisted that no sob story would change his mind, nasty Ray replied: "That’s a shame."
He then threw the man off the balcony to his death, which was followed by screaming from the streets.
Ray came back and told Mel he was feeling much better and that a tourist jumped off his balcony.
Will Ray murder again when Mel’s revenge scheme is revealed on New Year’s Day?
