ABC Murders viewers LIVID as ‘BBC completely create’ Poirot backstory

Viewers of the BBC’s ABC Murders were absolutely livid to find that their beloved Hercule Poirot had an entirely different backstory.

The end of the series showed off why Poirot is who he is, and how he got to London and worked as a detective, but fans were not impressed as to what was created to represent his backstory.

In the BBC adaptation, Poirot was shown in a field as soldiers came near to him and many others, but he quickly gathered them together to go inside of a church.

He took charge as he told them to stay inside while he tried to reason with the soldiers, who were clearly there to occupy his native Belgium.

And, of course, Poirot was a priest.

Poirot being a priest was a bit of a surprise to fans, mainly because he’s not actually a priest at all, and in the books he is a detective through and through.

Fans were livid to see this "fake" backstory had been shown in the adaptation, and took to social media to share their upset.

One said: "Well. That’s certainly ‘reimagining’ Poirot’s past. #ABCMurders

Another said: "#ABCMurders was doing so well until they started the screw with Poirot’s backstory – not everyone needs a tragic past and they are backing themselves into a corner when it comes to later cannon books!"

A fourth said: "Bloody hell. Poirot was never a priest. It’s one thing to adapt a story, and another to completely balls it up. #ABCMurders"

Another added: "Now they are trying to tell us Poirot was a priest!!!!! #abcmurders"

Fans were also unhappy about the series being "perverted" as it showed a man with epilepsy asking for a woman to try and injure him to take his mind off the pain of his condition, meaning she stuck her heels into huge holes in his back.
