EastEnders fans have been shaken and stirred by the unlikely romance between Ian Beale and Jean Slater.
Soap fans never have long to wait for a love storyline to emerge on the small screen – but many found the latest magic spark to ignite on Albert Square something of a welcome surprise.
Long time fans of the long running BBC one drama were shocked and amazed when Ian (played by 50-year-old Adam Woodyatt) received a surprise kiss from Jean (played by 58-year-old Gillian Wright).
The touching moment took viewers by surprise on Friday night as fans tuned in for their end-of-week episode.

Ian and Jean were in the kitchen and other lunged for an object inside a cupboard.
Due to terribly timing mixed with even worse senses of spacial awareness, the two soap characters collided and bumped their heads.
Ian and Jean then both winced and wailed in pain before Jean asked Ian if he was alright.
Soap fans were then shocked as Jean leaned in to lock lips with the five-times-married character.

Taking to Twitter following the scenes, fans expressed their joy and delight.
"Ian and Jean is the romance I never knew I needed,” one thrilled fan commented on Twitter.
"Jean and Ian are honestly the weirdest couple but I’m here for it,” added another.

Whether or not the blossoming romance will last, however, is anyone’s guess as love rarely survives in soaps.
Indeed, the on-off love affair between Kat Slater and Alfie Moon looks set to reach a dramatic end on Christmas Day as the traditionally upbeat festive episode is due to air with scenes of tears, tantrums, and trashed cars.
