Norris Cole is set to return to Coronation Street in the new year, but there’s a catch that some fans may not have realised.
But sadly there is unfortunate news that accompanies this as Norris will only be having a cameo, thus departing the show shortly after returning.
Malcolm Hebden, who played the role for almost 25 years on and off, left Weatherfield in 2017 after he had a heart attack, and needed time off to recover.
It was announced that he would be returning to the show in 2019, but the executive producer of the show, Iain MacLeod, has revealed Norris’ return will only be temporary, almost a "cameo return" at present.

Iain told Digital Spy: "He’s back for a short stint in a little sort of cameo return in the hope we can have him back permanently in the future.
"He’s on that list of Emily Bishops of characters who are so Corrie that the show doesn’t feel correct without them in there. Soap characters come and go – but I am reading bits in the scripts where I know Norris would have something to say.
"His return story is pleasantly silly and revisits his relationship with Mary in a meaningful way. I hope Malcolm likes it, he’s not read the script yet."

Norris joined the show in 1994, and was later made a regular in 1999, working in the Kabin alongside Rita Sullivan and living with Emily Bishop for a short time at No.3.
The star has been "in Scotland" for a while, spending time with Emily as well as some others in Edinburgh.
But Norris’ presence has still been on the street, as his wife Mary Taylor has remained there in his absence, regularly mentioning him in moments of love and affection.

Fans will be hoping that Norris and Mary will have a touching on-screen reunion, though the recent bombshell about her evil son Jude may threaten to ruin their time together.
Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
