Pensioner who spent £30k on Christmas decor forced to decorate with a broken foot

A pensioner who has spent more than £30,000 on Christmas decorations has shown the This Morning team around her truly decked out house, admitting she did it with a broken foot.

Betty Ann Jones, 76, who lives in Swansea with her husband, Keith, has a Father Christmas room, a Snowman room and loads of other festive items in her house, with her dining room, living room and stairwell completely kitted out with festive cheer.

She has been collecting ornaments for more than 50 years, assuring This Morning’s Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford that she has not spent £30,000 "in one go," but over the course of years.

Betty Ann also opens up her home to children for a small fee, and has raised more than £70,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

She starts her work in August, but revealed this year, she actually started singlehandedly decking out her home with a broken foot.

Betty Ann admitted: "They can’t do it good enough and obviously I’ve got a standard but when you look around you can’t see any wires and that’s why I start in August.

"This year I started and had two bones broken in my foot, so is struggled, but I did it and I’m happy I’ve done it – I’ve had helpers and I’m Santa’s little helper today."

Before giving the show a tour of her incredible home, she told the hosts the story of the decorations.

She said: "It started years ago when I opened a care home back in 1989, and of course the old residents enjoyed Christmas so it started from then.

"But as you say I’ve been collecting ornaments for more than 50 years, it’s not that I’ve spent £30k in one go, but as you see I love Christmas and I hope to bring a lot of joy to the children."

Betty Ann admitted she will no longer be able to "empty" her rooms of furniture for the house makeover anymore, a she is forced to do it alone every year and is becoming too frail to do the heavy lifting.

She explained: "What I have said is I will stop emptying the room because this has been very difficult for me because I do it on my own and I’m up and down the ladders at 76 years of age.

"But what I’d like would be a little chalet outside and I can decorate it all!"

Her husband Keith did admit that he has helped her, but she has too high standards and insists on doing it all herself.

In her Father Christmas room she had 50 Santas, with 15 Christmas trees, with some of the ornaments being around 30 years old.

In her Snowman room she had 75 snowmen, including a six foot snowman tree which she brought back from Florida after a holiday, showing off baubles from all over the world.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10.30am on ITV.
