When is Strangers Things Season 3 released on Netflix?
Netflix confirmed that the start would be delayed. Stranger Things will drop on Netflix in Summer 2019 rather than the usual Halloween release date.
The news was broken during the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour in Beverly Hills on July 29.
Why has Stranger Things been delayed?
When asked why it had been delayed Cindy Holland, VP of Netflix’s original content said: “It’s a handcrafted show, The Duffer brothers and Shawn Levy have worked really hard, and they understand the stakes are high. They want to deliver something bigger and better than what they did last year. And so they really want to take the time to get it right.”
There’s also more special effects which is one of the main reasons it’s been held back.
Though David Harbour in December last year said the Duffer Brothers "need time" to write it when explaining why it would be delayed.

Stranger Things season 3 plot
Following the Stranger Things 2 finale fans had a whole host of questions, some of them we still don’t know the answer to, others we’ve got a hint of what’s to come.
Firstly, it’s obvious now that the show will reach beyond Hawkins. "They’re going to have to get the f*** out of this town," Ross told Vulture.
Of course, we already saw Eleven head out of Hawkins and find Kali aka Eight. It looks like they were testing the waters. The episode, The Lost Sister split fans, but it looks like you can expect more of the same.
What about the Mind Flayer? The Duffer Brothers told Hollywood Reporter: "They’ve shut the door on the Mind Flayer, but not only is it still there in the Upside Down, it’s very much aware of the kids, and particularly Eleven. It had not encountered her and her powers until that final episode. Now, it knows that she’s out there. We wanted to end on a little bit of an ominous note on that level."
What about Eleven? Millie Bobbie Brown speaking to Variety also said we can expect a "coming of age" storyline. “It’s a beautiful storyline for Eleven this season," she said.
Will we find out about Hopper’s daughter Sara? It could be the case! David Harbour, who plays the Sheriff, told Insider that a theory that Sara died in Hawkins Lab could actually be true.
Fans noticed a similarity between Hopper slumped against a stairwell in season one and Dr Owens in season two. Harbour confirmed "it’s the same location. So that’s interesting, Or it’s a similar location."
Papa could also be back, he appeared briefly in season two. Eight could also return, as the villain too.
The whole vibe was expected to be "bigger and darker", though The Duffer Brothers said it won’t "necessarily going to be bigger in scale." Talking to IndieWire they added they’re excited to take the characters on a journey.
“I love the fact that they’re going through adolescence," said Matt Duffer.
Steve is also back, Joe Keery who plays him has talked about where the character could go.
Speaking to Mashable he said: “He’s [Steve] definitely not the fastest guy. In a pinch, he can work himself out of some situations. With Hopper, they could lend to each other in that way. It could be like a buddy-cop movie or something.”
The relationship Steve had with Dustin was something fans really took too last season. You can expect more of that too. Shawn Levy said: “I want them to have a connection like they’ve really had a connection for a year—like they’re brothers.”
While Will was so key to season one, and sort of in season two it seems he won’t play such a big part in season three.
"We’re going to give Will a break," added Levy.
Expect more of a comedic feel if Harbour is to be believed. Speaking at a screening of Stranger Things on August 18 Harbour said season 3 was inspired by 80s comedy Fletch, starring Chevy Chase. We look forward to seeing what ideas came from that.
The Duffer Brothers like to use specific years, and we also know season 3 will be set in 1985.
Harbour told Variety: "The Duffers are so specific each year with the movies…and Fletch is one movie we get to play around and have some fun with this season, which you wouldn’t expect from Stranger Things and you wouldn’t expect from the Spielberg universe and you certainly wouldn’t expect from a darker season.”

He added his relationship with Eleven will also get more complicated: "Their relationship is going to get far more complex, because, you know, things happen to girls and boys when they’re 13 and 14…a lot of changes go on in the body and in your social life, and I don’t think he’s going to handle watching her become a woman in front of his eyes very well.”
We hope there’s more Joyce and Harbour heart eyes too. “There may be other people in the mix in this situation, but I think they’re built for each other and I would love to see them get together," he said.
“From the very beginning, I thought that these two are tortured, messed up, beautiful people who are like puzzle pieces that can’t stand each other but actually need each other.”
When is Stranger Things season 3 set?
1985! Speaking to Collider Shawn Levy said it’s set the year after season two. The show will have to cover the kids’ puberty and the trials of growing up.
“Even if we didn’t want to deal with [puberty], we have to deal with it because our real-life actors are going through it. I think that’s exciting because it forces the show to evolve and become something different every year,” the Duffer Brothers said.
Expect it to impact the friendships we know and love as Lucas and Max were together when we last saw them…that might not last long. "When you’re that age, how long do relationships last? They usually last about two weeks if you’re lucky. I think that’s going to be fun to explore," the Duffer Brothers added.
Though Mike and Eleven are still together according to Levy.
Is Stranger Things season 3 the last season?
The Duffer Brothers told Vulture they’re “thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out”.
So one more season and then we could be done.
“Everything changes as we move forward so we’ll see,” says Ross Duffer.
Matt Duffer added: “I want it to have a really finite ending. I don’t want it to be one of those shows that runs out of gas and they lose it because they’re losing interest. You wanna end when you’re on top.”
Stranger Things season 3 cast: Who is returning?
Since Stranger Things began the kids have really taken the world by storm. Millie Bobby Brown is already starring in big blockbusters, with Godzilla: King of Monsters already out.
There’s also The New Mutants starring Charlie Heaton, who plays Jonathan.
It looks like as they get busier it could be hard to get everyone together BUT who is confirmed for season three.
All the main characters are returning. Priah Ferguson, who portrays Lucas’ little sister, Erica, has been upped to a recurring role.
Netflix teased she will return with "an army of friends".
“Erica wasn’t even supposed to be in [Season 2] as much as she was. We fell in love with this girl," Matt Duffer told Yahoo. “There will definitely be more Erica in Season 3,” Ross Duffer added.
Linnea Berthelsen, who plays Kali, could also return. After she said was keen to return Matt told Vulture Festival in LA: “I would say chances are very high she comes back."
There will be a few new faces too.
Netflix has cast Maya Thurman Hawke as "alternative girl" Robin. The streaming site has told fans to prepare for "angst" as that’s the only description given.
"She seeks excitement in her life and gets more than she bargained for when she uncovers a dark secret in Hawkins, Ind," Variety reports.
The 19-year-old is the daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke and appeared in a BBC remake of Little Women.
That Hashtag Show reported three new characters are heading to Hawkins too.
Mayor Larry Kline: Classic, 80s style click politician. Kline is pathetic and driven by his own interests. The studio is looking for a male, 40s-60s to fill the role. Kline is being played by Princess Bride star Cary Elwes.
Bruce: A morally compromised news reporter in his 50s. Bruce is outwardly sexist, overweight and bedraggled. Starship Troopers’ Busey will play Bruce.
Patricia Brown: Sweet, neighbourhood elder. Woman in her 70s, that will spend time tending her garden and offering advice to the kids.
We also now have Haters Back Off! actress Francesca Reale. She will play Heather who is described as "a popular lifeguard at the Hawkings Community pool." She’s expected to have a key role, but no details have been released yet.
Who are the new cast?
Cary Elwes and Jake Busey are joining the cast for season three. Princess Bride’s Elwes will play Mayor Kline, and Starship Troopers’ Busey is Bruce. Maya, who we’ve already mentioned is also starring.
Will the cast get a pay rise?
The stars are set to get paid more for season 3. Winona Ryder and David Harbour will be paid $350,000 an episode and Millie Bobby Brown $300,000.
Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin and Noah Schnapp will all get $250,000 per episode.
Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton and Joe Keery will also get $150,000 each.
Stranger Things filming
Filming began on April 23, with the cast sharing pictures from set. We got photos of Millie Bobby Brown filming an emotional beach scene on Instagram.
Millie also shared a video from set.
The star also said on May 20: “The Duffer brothers and Shawn Levy and Netflix really know how to grow with the characters so it’s very good.
“They know how to write to us and how we’re growing and our voices are changing and our mindsets are changing and we are maturing every day.”
Millie had to take a break from filming when she broke her kneecap. Co-star Sadie Sink called it "gnarly".
She returned to set in Atlanta for filming and was seen riding her bike with Sadie Sink in the rain.
David Harbour wrapped up filming as Chief Hopper in November, telling fans to say ‘goodbye mustache’ in a post on Instagram, where he was pictured wearing a hat of a new Hawkins business.
