Riverdale season three has been dominated by the Gargoyle King in its first half of the season, with many of the adults around the town making it on to the suspects list.
However, in episode seven The Man in Black we saw some huge twists in the tale of Griffins and Gargoyles, with some chief suspects beginning to make it to the top of that list and become seriously incriminated.
Firstly, in the Archie and Jughead storyline, Jug explored an almost deserted town not far from Riverdale, where an epidemic of the drug Fizzle Rocks and play of Griffins and Gargoyles has gripped the town, with many of the men leaving to work on building the nearby prison.
All of these are working for The Man in Black – Hiram Lodge.
So with the kingpin of Riverdale connected to the drug that the Gargoyle King uses in his rituals – it’s pretty incriminating right?
Even more developments occurred in Betty’s storyline at the Sisters of Quiet Mercy, where she has been forcibly institutionalised.
Betty learned that all the patients, including Ethel Muggs, have been taking Fizzle Rocks as medication and also play Griffins and Gargoyles at the encouragement of the Sisters.
We also find out they take any troublesome girls to the Gargoyle King himself in his lair.
As if the Fizzle Rocks connection wasn’t enough for Hiram Lodge, he arrived at the institution to speak with Sister Woodhouse and was shown in medical records regarding the testing of doses.
After Betty learnt this and tried to escape she was captured and forced into his lair.

Is Hiram Lodge the Gargoyle King?
There may be another contender though, as Betty also spotted Cheryl’s murderous uncle Claudius Blossom make a delivery to the Sisters.
Is Claudius in on it too?
Or could Cheryl’s equally murderous father Clifford be back from the dead?
It feels like we’re really close to finding out.
