Harry Styles-inspired sitcom axed after just two months due to poor viewing figures

The sitcom inspired by Harry Styles’ early years in One Direction has been axed.

CBS’ Happy Together has only been on air for two months, but the network has already scrapped the show after it failed to draw in viewers.

The series debuted to almost six million viewers but it soon dropped below four million.

It’s also been claimed the singer’s refusal to appear in the show in a cameo role or attend any of the promotion ahead of the air date had a big impact.

“Happy Together just kept underperforming from week one and its time was limited," a source said.

“In the end CBS just walked away. One of the major problems was the fact Harry would not appear in the series, even though the show was promoted around his life."

They added to The Sun: “He didn’t attend any major PR launches or even spend just a few hours with the cast."

Harry, who is an executive producer on the show, will still reportedly make around £100,000 from the series.

The programme stars Damon Wayans Jr and Amber Stevens West as a married couple whose settled lives in suburbia are disrupted when an aspiring pop star – played by Australian Felix Mallard – moves in with them.

It’s based on Harry’s real life living situation when he moved in with friend Ben Winston at the house he shared with his wife when the group had just competed on X Factor .

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine last year, TV producer Ben told how Harry originally said he would be moving into his home for two weeks because a house he liked nearby needed work.

But the star actually ended up sleeping on a mattress in the attic for almost two years.

"The truth of it is Harry became a huge part of our family. We never wanted him to move out … he would prefer to live in this sort of modern suburban family unit rather than living on his own in a mansion," Ben said.
