Furious ITV bosses have ordered an inquest into Noel Edmonds shock exit after nine days – after shelling out a record £600,000 to book the telly vet.
It is thought Noel would "go the distance" on the show with bosses privately branding the booking "an expensive mistake."
Producers thought Noel, 69, would bring quirky charm to the camp with bosses deeply disappointed their big name went so early in the competition.
A source told the Daily Star Sunday: "The Immunity Games were a daft idea. It meant dead certs to go got a free pass and put the big names at risk.

"If he was up against Malique or Sair it would have been a different story. There was said to be genuine shock backstage after Noel was voted off."
Noel raked in £600,000 for just a nine day stint in camp.
Even Noel admitted that he was shocked to be out so early. He said: "When it happened I was surprised but then it dawned on me that I was going to be with [wife] Liz."
He joked that he felt an "overwhelming need to calm the nation" after discovering the outcry over his shock exit.

Noel quipped: "Please do not riot… I’ve spoken to the prime minister!"
Asked about his opinion on Nick Knowles, he said: "Nick I think is great and is a natural leader… I do have a problem sometimes with rules and regulations…"
Noel, 69, is expected to rake in millions from a book, endorsements and an offer to be a YouTube fitness guru.
