Ariana Grande has finally released the hotly-anticipated video for latest hit Thank U, Next, and it does not disappoint.
Referencing some classic rom coms from the early noughties, as well as boasting cameos from the likes of Kris Jenner and Troye Sivan, it’s no surprise that fans are streaming the star’s latest video in their droves.
But what does the video really mean? And what are the pop culture moments that Ariana is referencing throughout?
There’s no doubt that Ariana is spoofing 2004 cult hit Mean Girls in the video, as it begins with a series of high school students revealing rumours that they had heard about the singer.
“One time on Twitter, I heard Ariana was pregnant,” says one student. “So I got pregnant so we could be pregnant at the same time."

She adds, revealing her pregnancy bump: “Turns out it was just a rumour.”
While fellow singer Troye Sivan says: “I heard she’s a lesbian now and dating some chick called Aubrey. It’s f*****g sick.”
Referencing a scene in the film, Mean Girls actor Jonathan Bennett says: “Ariana Grande told me my hair looks sexy pushed back. She’s not wrong.”
Actress Stefanie Drummond says: “Ariana broke off an engagement, so I found a guy to propose to me, and I broke off an engagement.”
Ariana is seen writing her own ‘Burn Book’
In teen film Mean Girls, Stefanie Drummond admits: “I saw Cady Heron wearing cargo pants and flip flops, so I went out and bought cargo pants and flip flops.”
Meanwhile, Youtube personality Gabi DeMartino says: “Ariana says ‘Honest to God, Knock Me Out,’ so I decided to punch myself in the face. It was awesome.”
This is in reference to Ariana and ex-boyfriend Pete Davidson’s matching “H2GKMO” tattoos.

Ariana is then seen creating her own ‘Burn Book’ – another reference to Mean Girls – though her pages are filled with exes who she loved whereas in the film the ‘Burn Book’ is full of insults.
Exes Big Sean, Ricky Alvarez, and Pete are all given pages in the book, though Mac Miller is respectfully not pictured following his tragic death earlier this year.
Ariana writes of ex Pete: “Sorry I dipped, I love u always.”
The video also recreates one of the most iconic scenes from Mean Girls, where original star Lindsay Lohan performs a Christmas routine with her pals, the Plastics.

Kris Jenner, spoofing Amy Poehler’s character, gets involved
Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner plays Amy Poehler’s cringey mum character, who is hell bent on filming the whole performance.
Actress Elizabeth Gillies, who starred in Victorious with Ariana, makes a cameo as the girl gang walk through the halls of their high school.
Another of Ariana’s Victorious co-stars Matt Bennett makes an appearance as the video goes on to spoof cheerleader flick Bring It On.

The Clovers take on the Toros all over again
Youtube star Colleen Ballinger, who is also known as Miranda Sings, appears as a cheerleader with ‘TUN’ emblazoned on her outfit – a reference to the song’s title.
The Clovers and Toros – who famously have a cheer-off in the movie – battle it out.
Ariana’s video briefly makes reference to hit movie 13 Going On 30, as she sings the line “When I walk down the aisle holding hands with my mama.”
She spoofs the film by carrying a dollhouse away from a wedding in tears – just like Jenna does at Mattie’s nuptials in the movie.
Legally Blonde: Ariana and pup Toulouse dress up as the lawyer and companion Bruiser
The star is seen reading a book on immigration policy
Next, Ariana takes on Legally Blonde as she transforms into Elle Woods, with her own dog Toulouse playing the role of Bruiser.
In a nod to the US political climate, she is seen reading a book titled Immigration and Refugee Policy.
Actress Jennifer Coolidge reprises her role from Legally Blonde as Paulette as she chats with Ariana in a nail salon.

The singer makes subtle reference to comedian Pete’s infamous ‘Big D*** Energy’ meme, as she says: “He was really cute, and it was really big.”
Kris Jenner closes out the video from the Mean Girls high school theatre, saying: “Thank you, next, b***h!”
