Meghan Markle ‘wanted air fresheners inside St George’s Chapel’ on wedding day but Palace ‘said no’

Meghan Markle wanted air fresheners to be put inside St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle ahead of her wedding day to Prince Harry, it’s been claimed.

The pair’s fairytale May wedding went without a hitch, but ahead of the big day Meghan is said to have taken issue with the ‘musty’ smell inside the 15th century chapel.

A report claims well-placed royal sources have revealed the Duchess of Sussex wanted air freshners to be used just before guests arrived for the ceremony.

But the request for the atomisers – which reportedly came from Meghan’s office at Kensington Palace – didn’t go down well with Buckingham Palace who said that if it was good enough place of worship for the Queen, it will be good enough for the former Suits actress.

While Meghan and Harry organised the wedding themselves, chapel requests all had to go through the Queen.

A source told the Daily Mail: "Apparently Meghan didn’t like the smell of the chapel, which, as you would expect, is a little musty. It’s not unpleasant at all, though."

They went on: "Meghan wanted staff to go around with these atomisers, like spritzer guns, and spray the chapel with scent before anyone arrived.

"Royal Household staff stepped in and told her office politely, but firmly, that this was the Queen’s Chapel and it simply wasn’t appropriate."

The royal insider continued: "This is a place that has held royal weddings, funerals and even contains the Royal Vault. I don’t believe a request of that nature had been made before."

The source said there had been "no falling out", but added, "frankly it was all a bit ridiculous and rather over the top."

It comes amid rumours of a rift between Meghan and Kate Middleton and also after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced they were relocating to Windsor.

Rather than stay close to the Cambridges, Harry and Meghan will be moving away to raise their baby at Frogmore Cottage on the Queen’s Windsor Estate.
