If you were a fan of BBC detective series Wallander, headed by Sir Kenneth Branagh, then you are in luck as the character will be making a comeback in a new series.
Coming to streaming giant Netflix is the prequel series Young Wallander, following the detective Kurt Wallander in his earlier years.
The show is due to start production in 2019, coming from the previous series’ production company Yellow Bird UK.
No castings have been announced, but the actors will be both British and Swedish.
The synopsis suggests exciting things lie in store.
In a bold and original new story set in contemporary Sweden, Young Wallander sees Henning Mankell’s iconic detective Kurt Wallander investigate his gripping first case. The story focuses on the formative experiences – professional and personal – faced by Kurt as a recently graduated police officer in his early twenties.
Who will be the one to step in Brannagh’s shoes?
Regardless, Netflix Vice-President and Head of International Originals Erik Barmack promised thrilling things from the series.
“Henning Mankell’s beloved detective Kurt Wallander has a special place in our hearts as his eponymous series was the first Yellow Bird ever produced.
"So, it is with tremendous joy and pride that we embark on this new journey together with Netflix as our first production through Yellow Bird UK.”
Netflix continues to produce and distribute exciting international content, with Polish drama 1983 due to drop at the end of November.
Sounds like exciting stuff is coming our way from Netflix!
