Victoria Beckham was convinced she’d been fatally shot when she heard ‘gunshots’ while performing live at the Brit Awards in 1997.
Posh Spice and the rest of the band were being honoured with the lifetime achievement award when loud bangs were heard in the Earls Court venue.
Victoria immediately bent double, assuming she’d been hit with a bullet, and stopped singing in terror, because she and husband David Beckham had been plagued by a persistent stalker for months.
But it was actually hundreds of red balloons popping to coincide with the end of their performance.

The stalker, she wrote in her autobiography Learn To Fly, had send them dozens of threatening messages through the post, including one gruesome letter that simply said: "Victoria, you bitch. I hate you, you’re going to die. See you at the Brits at Earls Court on the 3 March."
By the time the performance rolled around, Posh had worked herself into a panicked frenzy thinking she’d never see her family, friends or baby son Brooklyn Beckham again.
She was so beside herself with terror that the band’s security chief told her to stay with her driver John the whole day to keep safe.
"I didn’t know who I could trust," she wrote. "I didn’t know if I could trust anybody."

VB was convinced her life was in danger
Up on stage at the Brits, Victoria was paranoid and stressed out – and lost control when she started hearing what she thought were gunshots.
"So we’re singing Goodbye and then on the last chorus I heard the shots ring out – BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG, BANG. I just clutched at my stomach. I’d been shot – I knew I’d been shot," she wrote in her book.
"I could see policemen starting to run, everyone all wired up, people starting to run towards the stage. But the shots hadn’t stopped."
It took several moments for Victoria to get a grip of her panic.

"Out of the corner of my eye, I realised what had happened. The roof of Earls Court had been covered by a thousand balloons and for the finale they were somehow bursting them. They hadn’t told us this was going to happen," she added.
"Tears of relief were pouring out of my eyes as I realised I wasn’t dead. Then Will Smith came on stage and presented us with the award. The next day there are pictures of me bent over on the stage with tears in my eyes and it was ‘Posh gets emotional’ because they assumed I was overcome with having won this award.
"My emotion was simply from the knowledge that I was alive. I was so convinced I’d been shot that I actually looked for bullet holes."
In their 19 years married, David and Victoria have been the subject of multiple burglary plans and kidnap plots.
And early on in their relationship, they were left shaken and terriified when they were sent two silver bullets – each with their name engraved – to their family home.
