There was a panicked look on Piers’ face as crew member quickly attached a microphone to Piers before he frantically jumped into his seat.
Co-host Susanna Reid did not look impressed as the camera zoomed into her face while Piers got into position.

Explaining why he was late, Piers said: "I was having a good old chat with the makeup artist. I asked her, it’s a genuine conversation, said ‘do you feel like a great artist? Like da Vinci or something when you’re painting this canvas? She just stared at me and didn’t say anything.

He replied: "You can tinker with perfection, you can’t really improve it."
Continuing with his tale, Piers said: "Someone came in and casually went ’40 seconds until we’re on air’. I went ‘what’."
Thankfully the presenter did manage to grace our screens this morning.
