I’m A Celebrity to continue ‘beyond 2020’ despite row with council bosses

I’m A Celebrity bosses are “committed” to agreeing a new deal to stay in their current camp after a row with the local council – and that means the series is likely to continue “beyond 2020” on the Gold Coast.

Tweed Shire Council have been in a long-running battle with ITV about the number of cars and heavy vehicle trips they make on small roads around the jungle site.

Earlier this year ITV had threatened to walk away from the Tweed if a compromise could not be reached after it was fined for breaching its 80-cars-a-day limit.

Last week a new application was filed to the council, asking for the quota to be bumped up to 100 vehicles for 35 days of the year.

And a spokesman for ITV Studios, who produce the show, told the Mirror: “We’re committed to working with the local council and residents to reach a satisfactory outcome.”

The show and its 500-strong crew bring in around £7.5million-a-year to the local economy, meaning the council is likely to back down over its fines and demands.

The show has been based on the site near Murwillumbah since 2003 and after record ratings this year, show sources insist it is here to stay on the Gold Coast and on screen.

One TV source said: “We are happy here, production know how things run and we are able to run a slick show, if we moved it would present a whole new set of problems. So a new agreement with the council is essential.
