Strictly’s Graeme Swann reveals his secret ambition if he wasn’t a cricketer

Graeme Swan has revealed to It Takes Two host Zoe Ball what he would be doing if he didn’t choose cricket after his Strictly Come Dancing prowess saw him through another round at the weekend.

The former England cricketer has had an incredible career – being named ECB Cricketer of the Year and was part of the England team that claimed the No.1 ranking in test cricket in 2011.

He was even the No.1 ranked bowler in One Day Internationals, but retired from cricket during the teams Ashes loss in 2013-2014 after a recurring elbow injury started coming back.

But it turns out Graeme had a secret desire to do something very different if cricketing didn’t work out, which he revealed to Zoe and his dance partner, Oti Mabuse.

When Zoe asked why he is such a brilliant showman, he said: "It’s me hiding my vast insecurities of how I look and smell…

"No, it’s one of the greatest things – I’m a frustrated actor so to put all of the outfits on and to play a different role rather than a boring sportsman all the time, in white."

He also revealed he would be wearing three outfits this weekend, as they will be involved in some group outfits as well as their own routine.

Graeme joked: "The three outfits I get to wear for the group outfits – I’m stealing the lot. Sorry BBC!"

But it seems that Graeme’s showmanship has done even more than just get him through the dreaded dance-off, but it has shown that he has bucked the trend, surviving more episodes than many sportsmen who have gone before, including Jonnie Peacock and Phil Tufnell.

Graeme’s style didn’t quite get him through scot-free last week, as he ended up battling against Kate Silverton for a place in the next round, though sadly she and her partner Aljaz Skorjanec were the ones sent home.

It Takes Two airs weekdays at 6.30pm nd at 6pm on Fridays on BBC2.
