Love Island’s Laura Crane opens up on sepsis ordeal and ‘amazing’ ex Jack Fowler

Love Island star Laura Crane has opened up on her horrific sepsis ordeal.

The 23-year-old almost died after battling the blood infection in hospital for 10 days earlier this month.

The professional surfer told Lorraine Kelly that she has still not had a definitive answer as to how she contracted the life-threatening infection.

She revealed that her mum saved her by travelling up to London and taking her to hospital.

Laura also praised ex-boyfriend and fellow Love Island contestant Jack Fowler for his support during her health crisis.

Speaking about her ordeal, Laura said: "I didn’t realise how ill I was. I had this crazy high temperature. my heart felt like it was coming through my shirt.

"My mum luckily was coming up to London to see me because I wasn’t replying to my texts. If my mum didn’t come I wouldn’t have gone to hospital that day.

"For me I couldn’t understand how my own body had created it. I thought it must be something else. It took them a long time to find where the infection had started."

She said: "I’ve never had a definitive answer as to why. I went in there with what I thought was really bad period pains. I thought after a paracetamol I’ll be fine.

"I woke up with a crazy high temperature. I was delirious and had no concept of time. I remember my mum driving to the house and me getting in the car. My mum said ‘this isn’t Laura’."

"For the first five days I was in hospital when they were trying to figure out where the infection was as I got worse. My temperature went really high and low. My heat rate wouldn’t stabilise. That is when I was really terrified."

GP Sarah Jarvis, who joined Laura on the sofa, said: "It absolutely is [a killer]. You are unusual in getting it but it can happen to anyone."
